BYD Service in Muscat: Warranty, Costs and Your Options

BYD Service in Muscat: Warranty, Costs and Your Options

Short answer: BYD only launched in Oman in December 2024, so almost every BYD in the Sultanate is still young and still inside its manufacturer warranty. That single fact decides where you should take it. For anything the warranty covers, go to the official network. For everything the warranty does not cover — and that list is longer than most owners realise — an independent EV specialist is usually faster and cheaper, and will not affect your coverage.

This guide sets out what BYD's warranty actually covers, what it does not, what an independent workshop can legally do while your car is still under warranty, and how to judge a quote.

The BYD network in Oman

BYD entered the Omani market in December 2024, launching in Muscat with five models and three showrooms — Wattayah, Al Mouj, and Mall of Oman, the first car showroom in the country inside a shopping centre, as reported at the time.

That is a young network serving a young parc. It also means two things for owners: the official service capacity in Oman is still building out, and nobody's BYD here is old enough to have fallen out of the basic vehicle warranty yet.

What the warranty covers — and why you should read yours

BYD's warranty terms vary by market, and the Oman terms are not published online. The nearest reference points:

  • Saudi Arabia: BYD's aftersales terms list a high-voltage battery and drive unit warranty of 8 years or 200,000 km, covering battery capacity down to 60%, with basic vehicle cover of 6 years or 150,000 km.
  • Europe: BYD extended its battery mileage limit in early 2026 to 8 years or 250,000 km, with a guaranteed state of health of 70%.

Do not assume either set applies to you. Ask a Muscat showroom for the written warranty document and check three numbers specifically: the mileage limit, the battery state-of-health threshold, and whether the drive unit is included with the battery or sits under the shorter basic warranty. The state-of-health threshold is the one that catches people — a pack that has degraded to 65% is working as designed under a 60% threshold, and you have no claim.

What your warranty does not cover

This is the list that sends BYD owners to an independent, and it is substantial:

  • Wear items — tyres, wiper blades, brake pads and discs, cabin filters, suspension bushes.
  • Accident and cosmetic damage — anything from a car park scrape to a full collision repair. Our body and paint work covers this.
  • Damage from the environment — sand ingress, stone chips, heat-related trim and seal failure. All routine in Oman.
  • Anything on a grey-import car. If your BYD came in through an importer rather than the official channel, you may have no local manufacturer warranty at all. This is common with models never officially launched here.
  • Software and region configuration on imported cars — Chinese-market infotainment, wrong-region navigation, apps that will not connect. Our programming and software services handle module coding, firmware and region setup.
  • Diagnosis of a fault the dealer cannot reproduce — in practice, if the official network cannot replicate an intermittent fault, you are on your own until it becomes permanent.

Can an independent touch your BYD without voiding the warranty?

Yes, for the work above. A manufacturer cannot void your entire warranty because an independent workshop fitted tyres, repaired a dented panel or diagnosed a fault. What a manufacturer can do is decline a claim for a component where the independent work caused the failure.

The practical rule is simple: keep the warranty-covered components with the official network, and keep records of everything anyone else does. Dated invoices, parts specifications, and a written description of the work. A documented service history protects you in any dispute, and it protects your resale value — which in a market this new is worth real money.

Where an independent is genuinely useful even while you are in warranty is the second opinion. If you are told your pack needs replacing, an independent state-of-health test gives you an independent number to argue with. That is a diagnostic service, not a repair, and it does not touch your coverage.

What BYD servicing actually involves

Which jobs apply depends on which BYD you own, and the split matters more than people expect:

  • Fully electric (Atto 3, Seal, Dolphin, Han) — no engine oil, no spark plugs, no exhaust. Servicing is brake fluid, coolant for the pack and power electronics, cabin filter, tyres, brakes, and high-voltage system checks.
  • Plug-in hybrid DM-i (Qin Plus, Song Plus and others) — all of the above plus a petrol engine with oil, filters, spark plugs and its own cooling circuit. Owners regularly under-budget for this, as we explained in our BYD Qin Plus guide, where the car sold here is the hybrid rather than the EV.

Across both, the parts that need specialist attention in Oman are the thermal management system and the high-voltage battery. Gulf ambient temperatures put more sustained load on pack cooling than the climates these cars were validated in, and a cooling system that is quietly underperforming shows up years later as accelerated degradation. Our battery and electrical team handles state-of-health testing, isolation procedure and high-voltage diagnostics across brands.

What to ask before you accept a quote

  1. Is this covered by my warranty? Ask before paying for anything. If it is covered, you should not be paying.
  2. Is the workshop high-voltage qualified? Not "we work on EVs" — actually qualified to isolate and work on a live pack safely.
  3. Do they have diagnostic access for BYD specifically? A generic scan tool reads almost nothing useful from a BYD's high-voltage side.
  4. Is a battery issue a pack problem or a sensor problem? Insist on seeing the diagnostic report. Replacing a pack because of a faulty sensor is the single most expensive mistake available to a BYD owner.
  5. Is a repair possible instead of a replacement? Module-level repair is frequently viable where a replacement is quoted.

Servicing your BYD with EVS in Oman

We are an independent EV specialist, not a BYD dealer — which means we are the right choice for some jobs and the wrong one for others, and we will tell you which is which. We cover:

  • Battery and electrical — state-of-health testing, high-voltage diagnostics, isolation procedure, thermal system checks
  • Programming and software — module coding, firmware, region configuration on imported cars
  • Mechanical — brakes, suspension, tyres, and full engine servicing on the DM-i hybrids
  • Body and paint — accident and cosmetic repair

Our BYD page lists the models we work on and the Qin Plus page covers that car specifically. To talk it through, contact us or visit our Oman centre.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the BYD service centre in Muscat?

BYD's official network in Oman launched in December 2024 with showrooms at Wattayah, Al Mouj and Mall of Oman. For warranty work, go through the official network. For work the warranty does not cover — wear items, accident repair, imported-car software, independent battery testing — an EV specialist is usually faster and cheaper.

Will servicing my BYD at an independent void the warranty?

Not in itself. A manufacturer cannot cancel your whole warranty because an independent fitted tyres or repaired a panel. It can decline a claim on a component where independent work caused the failure. Keep every invoice and a written record of the work, and you are protected.

How long is the BYD battery warranty in Oman?

BYD does not publish Oman-specific terms. In Saudi Arabia it is 8 years or 200,000 km with a 60% capacity floor; in Europe it is 8 years or 250,000 km at 70% state of health. Ask your showroom for the written Oman document rather than assuming either.

Does a BYD plug-in hybrid still need oil changes?

Yes. The DM-i models have a petrol engine, so oil, filters, spark plugs and coolant servicing all continue alongside the electric side. Only the fully electric models remove that.

Can you test my BYD battery health independently?

Yes — an independent state-of-health test gives you a number you can rely on, which is particularly useful before a resale, before a warranty conversation, or when you have been quoted for a pack replacement. Get in touch to arrange one.
