What EV Service Actually Costs in Oman — and What You Are Paying For

The honest headline is that an electric car costs less to maintain than a petrol one of the same size, and that most of what you pay for is time and equipment rather than parts. That second half is the part people find hard to accept, so it is worth setting out plainly.
What a full check includes
About two hours of work: the pack read cell by cell, the cooling circuits run under load rather than at idle, the drive unit, the 12-volt system, the charging control, the brakes, the suspension and every stored fault code across every module. You get the readings, not just a verdict.
Where nothing needs doing we write that down too. A documented clean check is not an empty invoice — it is what protects a warranty claim two years later, and it is what gives the next reading something to be compared against.
What you are not paying for
No oil, no oil filter, no spark plugs, no timing belt, no exhaust, no gearbox service. The cabin filter is the only routine consumable, and in Muscat it loads faster than the service interval assumes because of salt and dust.
Where the real costs land
Tyres, earlier than you expect. An EV is heavier and quicker off the line. On the gravel-shouldered interior roads they go faster still.
Brakes, but not the way you think. Pads last a very long time because regeneration does the stopping. The discs are the problem: they corrode from disuse. The correct job is cleaning and refacing, not a new set with most of the pad left. If you are quoted for a full replacement on a car under three years old, ask for the measurement.
Suspension, early. Bushes and top mounts on a car carrying several hundred kilos more than its size suggests wear sooner, and the interior roads accelerate it.
The expensive thing, and why it usually is not
A battery pack is the most expensive component on the car, and a great many packs written off as dead have a handful of bad cells and a cooling fault behind them. Working at module and cell level is slower and needs better equipment — it is also the difference between a repair bill and a new pack. We open the pack rather than quoting a replacement, and on most cars that is a two-to-four day job instead of several weeks.
The cheapest visit we do
A 12-volt diagnostic. Every year we see cars towed in with a full traction battery and a dead 12-volt — a forty-minute job that arrived on a recovery truck. If your car will not wake up, ask about this before anything else.
Why an EV-only workshop
Almost every workshop in Oman was built around the engine, and an electric car sent to one gets guesswork. The diagnostic access, the high-voltage safety equipment and the manufacturer software are the job — not an extra. That is the whole reason this workshop takes nothing else.
Tell us what the car is doing and we will say whether it needs the workshop or whether the mobile unit can settle it where the car is standing.
